Each summer, the Luther Hodges Scholars Program partners with for-profit and nonprofit organizations to offer scholars a fully funded, eight-week Cross-Sector Internship Experience, applying their business skills to address real-world societal needs.
This year, the program officially renamed its signature internship initiative the Cannon Family Charitable Trust Cross-Sector Internship in recognition of a transformative multi-year investment from the Cannon Family Charitable Trust.
We’re excited to announce this summer’s internship partners, who will host scholars from the Class of 2028:
Children’s Home Society of North Carolina
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Internship Theme(s): Strategic Planning, Nonprofit Management, Research & Analysis
Organizational Mission: To promote the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars team will serve as Strategic Stewardship Interns who will help bridge organizational purpose with effective management by supporting strategic planning efforts.
Crockett Foundation
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Internship Theme(s): Marketing & Outreach, Nonprofit Operations, Project & Event Management
Organizational Mission: Empowering Broward County’s future leaders
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars team will support the planning and execution of a large-scale community event and take on leadership roles within key project areas including: event logistics, partner coordination, marketing & outreach, and on-site operations.
Orange Bowl
Location: Miami, Florida
Internship Theme(s): Business Development, Research, Communications
Organizational Mission: To drive tourism and economic impact for South Florida through world-class events and collegiate athletics
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars team will work across different business units and engage in an external auditing, archival research, and business development initiatives that support philanthropic efforts and community-based initiatives throughout South Florida.
The National Center (NCAIED)
Location: Mesa, Arizona
Internship Theme(s): Advocacy & Policy, Entrepreneurship, Economic Development
Organizational Mission: To advance the growth of tribal- and Native-owned businesses through expert training, facilitating strategic collaborations and networks, and policy leadership
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars team will conduct research, analyze data, promote economic development initiatives, and implement organizational programing that supports Native businesses.
National Housing Trust
Location: Washington, D.C.
Internship Theme(s): Real Estate Development, Policy Implementation, Finance
Organizational Mission: We bring resident services, lending, policy, sustainability, and development under one roof to ensure that everyone -everywhere- can be proud of where they live
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars interns will work across teams in Policy, Lending, and Real Estate Development to conduct market research, evaluate policy, and assist in the management & operations of affordable housing initiatives.
Truist
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Internship Theme(s): Community Financial Reinvestment, Philanthropy, Banking
Organizational Mission: To inspire and build better lives and communities
Intern Roles: The Luther Hodges Scholars team will work across multiple functional areas that support the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Department efforts, evaluate Truist’s organizational health, and enhance philanthropic efforts through the Truist Foundation.
