Mary Miller, Class of 2024
Throughout my time at Kenan-Flagler, the Luther Hodges Scholars (LHS) program has been pivotal to helping myself and my peers succeed not only in our professional lives, but also in the classroom. From providing study buddies through cohort connections to hosting thought-provoking Fireside Chats that help us extend course concepts to real-world business challenges, the program has provided invaluable resources that help us make the most of our Kenan-Flagler degree.
One way that Luther Hodges Scholars has helped me in my academic life is by providing Exploratory Funding for my Phi Beta Kappa membership dues and graduation materials. Phi Beta Kappa is an academic honor society that “champions education in the arts and sciences, fosters freedom of thought, and recognizes academic excellence” (PBK.org, 2024). Past members include 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court Justices, and over 150 Nobel Laureates.
Phi Beta Kappa’s motto, “Love of learning is the guide of life,” exemplifies its commitment to lifelong scholarship, and they frequently host book clubs, scholar talks, conferences, and community-building events for all past and present inductees. The organization’s support for leadership development and interdisciplinary thinking fits well with the Luther Hodges Scholars program’s pillars of cross-sector collaboration and leadership. Through joining the organization, I am excited to engage with alumni to expand my network, utilize the “Key Connections” program to enhance my professional growth, and expand my literary palate through their Summer Reading List.
Thank you to the Luther Hodges Scholars program and staff for your generous support. I am extremely grateful for your guidance and generosity!
