Future Business Leaders Committed to Changing the World for the Better

Bern Moorehead

With four years of experience managing agricultural production, processing and trading in an emerging market, I am pursuing an MBA at Kenan Flagler to continue building a career in international agribusiness. I am inspired by the potential for well-run businesses to drive economic development and build communities.

Background

A North Carolina native, I attended UNC Chapel Hill and obtained a BS in psychology. I pursued independent research on schizophrenia and measures of affective dysfunction. After completing my undergraduate degree I joined Peace Corps and served as a community development volunteer in Mozambique for three years. While living and working with farmers in rural communities I saw the potential for sustained development through partnerships with responsible businesses.

Career

Following my service as a Peace Corps Volunteer I worked for four years with agri-commodities multinationals in Mozambique managing production, processing and export operations. From 2009 to 2012 I managed cotton and wood products operations with Olam International, a Singapore-based commodities firm. During the summer of 2013 I interned with Cargill’s Strategy and Business Development team.

Interests and Hobbies

During my time at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School I have worked with my classmates to found and lead the UNC Emerging Markets Club. Outside of school and volunteer work I enjoy salsa dancing and traveling.
